It’s been some time since I posted so I thought I’d talk about my first event on the US AM TOUR. The opener was played at Morongo GC at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont CA. The round was an early 7am Shotgun start, with a cool and beautiful morning. Arrived in the dark and hit the range and putting green just as the sun came up.
Watch Your Step
As I mentioned, it was dark at the time I arrived and walking onto the practice green, almost stepped on a baby rattle snake that was a bit sluggish due to the cool morning air.
I play in the Seniors Palmer bracket so Handicap index of 12.0 to 15.9 index. My playing partners for the round were
- Steve P
- Miles L
- Rich Mc
All three guys were good overall players and fun to play with. In fact, Steve ended up winning the tournament for our bracket. Congrats Steve!
Personally, I has a mixed round of play. 1 x birdie, 2 x par, 8 bogeys and the rest were doubles or others for a total of 101 with a net of 96. Not my best effort for sure and a lot of room for improvement. The birdie on the final hole of play, won me a $50 skin so not all was bad. The course was long and the traps were in really bad shape in terms of being no sand at all. I pride myself in being a very good bunker player, but these ones took a toll on my new 60 degree wedge with a nice line from hitting a rock in the groves. Here is a couple of pictures from the holes on the course.
The Next Round.
I’ll be playing my next event on Nov 11 for the Veterans Day at Oak Valley GC in Beaumont CA. I look forward to playing better and meeting some new playing partners on the tour. Till the next Round…
